How to protect your PC
Here we are talking about Internet related threats - in particular, Viruses and Malware
Step 1 - Antivirus / Anti Spy
Firstly you need a solid antivirus program. For your home PC, you can have it for free. I use and recommend

In addition you need a spyware removal tool from a trustworthy source. We currenctly use MicroSoft's AntiSpyware.
Although it seems to me that Avast is doing all the work, removing malware threats as well.

Step 2 - Fix registry problems
Is your system really slow, much slower than it use to be? Do you often get mysterious error messages that seem to appear out of nowhere? Does your computer keep crashing without warning?
Many of these relate to registry problems. We recommend
ErrorKiller to fix these problems. There free scan will search your computer for these errors and let you know where they are and what problems they may be causing. Use
ErrorKiller
to rectify these errors.
Step 3 - Browser
Thirdly you might want to consider using an alternative browser such as Mozilla (Firefox)- Why?
Here is why you should consider using Firefox browser.
Step 4 - Do regular backups of your data
Make sure to include your email data as well. Set restore points in XP prior to installing new software. This is how:
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore > Set Restore Points
The above four steps will go a long way in securing your PC from outside attacks and infestations. With good backups and
restore points you can usually recover if neccessary.
